Cue the tears!!
About 12 months ago, I was having a heartfelt conversation with my husband. I was sharing all of my thoughts about how education should be accessible. That learning should be stimulating, a challenge, but also a joy. I went on and on (trust me, on and on) about the importance of reading, of creative and critical thinking, about a community of learning that is supportive and generative where kids can share thoughts, writing, and strengthen comprehension and empathy.
The plan was to start that summer, and my husband said, “why not now?” I am not embarrassed to say that I took that quite literally and opened my computer and the Sustack browser and created a new account. “What do you think of the name, For the Love of Words?” I asked, and this idea became a fully fledged thing in the word.
After a year it is funny to reflect back on the reason to begin because I’m not a year removed from that. Everytime I put together a post or read a book, I am overcome by the same passion and energy- to serve kids and build a better way to learn and love learning.
There have been some major low points, some rough roading for sure, not gonna lie. While there have been lows there have also been highs. But what I am most proud of is how I get to keep showing up. And I thank you all so deeply for giving me the reason to continue. For everyone who opens an email, or presses like, or leaves a comment I have enduring gratitude.
