WHO: Hi! I am Olivia. I am a writer, a book lover, parent, and educator, born and raised in NYC. And I’m pretty much obsessed with all things words. I hold reading groups and creative writing workshops for kids remotely, and in person in Brooklyn. After years of tutoring and private teaching, I am joyfully bringing my passion and knowledge of books and writing to a digital space. And it gives me great pleasure to bring this to you.
WHAT: For the Love of Words is a book club mixed with a writing workshop, where kids learn to read deeper and apply their new comprehension with a creative writing exercise. Each month we read a book together. I provide background and info about the book and a chapter by chapter breakdown with observations and questions to guide the reader. Just like a book club. These guides are broken down into beginner, intermediate, and advanced to accommodate readers of all levels and abilities.
Then I pair a creative writing lessons and prompts that are uniquely based on the book we are reading. All posts include an audio reading of the post and videos for further enrichment.
The level is ideal for readers ages 9-13. But you know your reader best. The beginner guide can also be useful for kids ages 7 and 8, and advanced guide for kids 14 and 15.
WHERE: Here! And sent directly to your inbox. If you subscribe you’ll receive reading help on some of the best modern and classic books for kids, as well as creative writing prompts, and a chance to be a monthly featured writer. Not to mention all the back posts of all the amazing books we’ve already gotten into.
WHEN: We read a book a month and materials are emailed twice a week. However, you can always go at your own pace and be part of the book discussions as you go.
WHY: For the love of words! ( and for the love of stories, and characters, and imaginative worlds). And to encourage and continue a fascination with the literary and creative thinking for every kid. Whether they are self proclaimed bookworms, or need a little support on the journey.
