I threw this one to you guys. I asked you which book you’d rather read next on Substack and Instagram. And the result was…. A TIE! I am still laughing about this. On both platforms there was an even split. So it came down to me. And in the interest of making things easy and fair, we are going to read both! One will have to come first though, and since it’s our August book and still summer and all that, I went with the choice that was a little more of a breezy read. So if you are thinking Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing By Judy Blume you are correct!
This means that in September we will read Wonder. With its themes of friendship, courage, self belief, and kindness, it makes a great back to school match. Basically, we totally nailed that poll and we’re in for a great few weeks!
And in the spirit of the lazy days of summer, these posts are going to be a touch less rigorous. We will focus the majority of our learning on discussion and creative prompts and less on the worksheets/activities this month. After our little breather we are right back at it in the fall :)
Now onto our book! Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing was published in 1972. The original idea for this book was based on a newspaper article of a boy swallowing a turtle. This article was just the spark Blume needed to create one of the most beloved novels. That spark would also continue in several more making it a hit series.
