Just as Spring was peeking from beneath the snow, a cold front comes in and “sugar snow” dusts the ground. For someone like Laura who has been patiently waiting for the days of running barefoot in the sunshine again, this was slightly disappointing. But it turns out to be a very good thing.

The family packs up early one morning in their best clothes to their grandparents house to tap maples and celebrate with a family-wide dance that is nothing short of magical. Up until now the story of Laura and her life has been contained in the domestic life of the home in winter. As the seasons change, her experiences expand.
