Pax p. 131-206
Welcome back reader to week THREE of Pax book club!
Because most novels take the same narrative form (establish characters/story, develop characters/story, reach a climate with character/story, find resolution) that means that the third section of most books are going to be action packed and emotional. And this section was no different. By this point we have established who Peter and Pax are and what situation they are in. We have followed their growth and now we have reached the climax.
A lot of this section we see the effects of war on the characters. What was once a distant and abstract thing is now happening and having terrible consequences. Reading through this section makes us aware of the ways the human and natural world are intermixed. In this case, the consequences of the war in the human world is having on the animals. This idea of “nonduality” or the way all things are connected is also a big theme in this section.
The pages this week are beautiful and wrenching and brimming with so much for us to enjoy as readers, and to analyze and learn from as well.
In this section we are kicking off with some provoking discussion questions. Then on to an activity the explored non-duality, and finally a creative prompt on how we can use language to write action filled scenes. I hope you enjoy!
