Welcome back poets!
I am not the world’s greatest artist (actually this is a major understatement. I’m literally terrible). But when I do pick up a brush, I am more willing to play around with the colors or shapes rather than feel like I have to draw something exactly I have in mind. And even when I am trying to “copy” the likeness of something, I’m always way more satisfied when it comes out looking a little wonky and personal rather than a perfect replica.
I don’t know why people don’t approach poetry the same way. You can just as easily play around with words and make a game of it. And lucky for us, that is just what we are doing today!
Earlier this week I wrote about going back to poetry basics and zeroing in on what poetry can offer us, why it is fascinating and playful and actually useful. Namely that poetry helps us be curious, playful, and problem solve. These also just happen to be the bedrock of all learning and might I mention, are pretty good qualities to nurture whether you are a child or an adult. My intention for this post is to provide fun writing poetry prompts that prove these points.
