Summary

A lot and a little happens in this section. Ruby starts talking, more like demanding stories and attention and comfort the way little people can sometimes do. Stella’s infection takes her life and we experience the heaviness of her absence. But more than any action, we learn a lot about the animals and their past through the stories they tell each other, through their memories. A huge part of this section is in dialogue, where the characters are speaking. However, there is a lot that is not said, but we feel it anyway. Ivan is starting to remember his life before his entrapment, and remembering why he had to forget it in the first place.

We leave this section knowing where Ivan is and where he came from. But we are also on the verge of something, the beginning of where he is going. Will he keep his promise to Stella? What will become of the animals now?
