The One and Only Ivan 4/4
Our last Summary, Discussion Questions, Writing Prompt, Hands on Project for this book!
Welcome readers and writers! We did it! Another book unit on the books :) One thing I really appreciate about this book is the way the author Katherine Applegate is able to take a true story such as the real Ivan and make it even more real, more truly felt through fiction. We will get into this a bit more in our writing prompt later in this post.
In this final section of the novel Ivan’s plan to help Ruby actually pays off. But it is important to note that he was not alone. We discussed last week that people act out of different intentions, some of them for good, and some less good. For instance, the humans who saved Ruby form the hole she fell into, and then the humans who took Ivan from his family and home. Ivan needed the goodness and empathy of others to help him succeed. And in this section we see what that support looks like for Ivan and what we can accomplish when people come together to stand for something that is very important to them.
As always in this post we bring with some discussion questions to support evidence based reading and comprehension in a fun and interactive way. I offer a creative writing prompt and lesson based on the book, and conclude with a project/assignment to further engage with the book.
Just a heads up that these posts are for paid subscribers. While they are behind a paywall, these educational materials are 90% cheaper than an in person class and about 70% cheaper than an Outschool lesson. Probably worth mentioning that we are having a Black Friday Sale. 30% off for a year of learning guides. Or DONATE a year to a learner in need for 80% off!
I’d love to have you join us. Thank you for considering!
