Summary
This part of the book has a great balance between beauty and sadness. In many ways this also describes the balance of nature. Brightbill has this bursting instinct to fly, but will have to leave his mother Roz behind. Roz seeing the brutality of her first winter helps by building shelter and community for the wildlife on the island. There is no one thing without the other. This reflects perfectly the beauty and brutality of nature, but also makes for some pretty good story telling.
Migration
Migration is the journey birds take in the fall to fly to warmer climates for winter. They do this to stay warm, find mates and follow their food sources. It’s a highly instinctual and necessary movement and all over the world birds are moving around. But the cost is high.
