Summary
Just as we were going deep in to Auggie’s story, his life, his observations, we switch it up. In this section we leave our protagonist (main character) behind and get to know a few other characters by hearing directly from them. The first of those is Via, Auggie’s older sister who just started high school and is dealing with changing friendships, the loss of her grandmother, and always being second to her brother’s needs.
We also get a closer look at Summer. We see examples of her genuine kindness, her own personal losses, and finding a new balance between being a kid and growing up. Finally we get to see the world from Jack’s eyes. We learn about his financial circumstance, his desire to fit in, and so some extent how to unlearn that. What is someone’s character? How and why do people act out of character? Can we change our character? These are all questions that this part of the book bring up and useful conversation to start and continue with your family.
